Globe Valves

2 inch Non-rising Stem Globe Valve.

Originally designed to meet specifications for steam applications, this heavy duty valve is built to last whatever you throw at it. Nelson Controls brings new designs, like the 2 inch non-rising stem globe valve, to the table that addresses seat leakage, corrosion, operating errors, the need for a greater Cv rating, and a variety of ANSI configurations.

Less seat leakage.

Our new seat design can withstand the changing temperatures of steam and the hardness of sand-like particles.

Most globe valves don't feature any exotic seat materials. Those that do typically crack due to thermal expansion between the seat material and the valve body material. When the temperature of the valve seat is too warm compared to the valve body, some materials may expand and separate from the other materials. This can lead to cracks and, if there's adhesion failure, flaking. Our application of Tribaloy T-900 (a Stellite) with a butter layer of Inconel between it and the valve body material and the custom seat design can withstand this thermal expansion rate differential and avoid cracking.

Seat leakage can also occur from indentations left behind from closing the valve upon a trapped particle of sand. Our valve seats also feature a range of Rockwell hardnesses that can provide even greater protection against pitting from sand and other particulates. While the Tribaloy T-900 has a Rockwell hardness between 54-57, sand has hardness on the rockwell C scale is 72, whereas Tungsten Carbide varieties can exceed the hardness of the sand. With the Tungsten Carbide materials, we can make the seat strong enough to withstand this damage. Most all competitors' best seat materials of stainless steel are in the low Rc40's on the Rockwell hardness scale.

Less corrosion.

Nelson Controls has designed and tested prototypes that help prevent corrosion. Most corrosion for the globe valve is due to lower temperatures on the outside surfaces. Our top-entry valve design keeps the valveā€™s outer surface hotter, which helps to evaporate water condensate that may persist and corrode the outside of our valve. Optional materials of construction for acid environmental use is Hastelloy-C22.

We've also designed our globe valve to keep the stem inside and protected from the elements, thus increasing its service life even more.

Prevents operating errors.

When manually opening and closing the valve, often enough, the torque settings used to operate it are too high and the valve stems are sheared off, destroying the valve. Our valve solves this by being able to withstand 240 ft lbs of torque.

Higher Cv rating.

Generally, most 2 inch globe valves have a Cv value of less than 40, which is equivalent to 40 GPM at a 1 PSI pressure differential. In order to reach a greater Cv rating, we designed our valve to overcome the restrictions of bends in the flow path by allowing the opening to change shape which allows us to adjust the flow patterns more radically while maintaining equivalent square inch area through the flow paths. With testing and modeling, we've determined that we can provide a Cv rating of 62 with our globe valve.

ANSI configurations.

Initially designed to meet steam application specifications, we developed a valve that has ANSI 300 rated flanges on an ANSI 600 rated valve body. We are committed to maintaining an option to configure the ANSI ratings of our globe valves to different needs. This includes beefing up the valve body to meet ANSI 600 and 900 specifications as well when requested and giving different end connections such as butt weld or threaded as well as flanged to meet ANSI 300, 600 and 900 ratings to fit the customers' needs.

Our newly designed non-rising stem globe valve solves the greatest problems that BP, Shell, Exxon/Mobil and customers alike are experiencing today and is unparalleled by any competitor.
